Although his ascent through the ranks was quick, Zane finds himself struggling with the many pressures that come with his position. Having left his brother to struggle alone once before, Viktor is determined to join the Legion to support his brother in any way he can. When I recieved the coupon for this game I thought it looked good, and it is. Mission based shooter with an interesting mechanic. Got it relatively cheap too with the sale and the copuon. After playing this I am going to have to play the oringal Viktor. You don't really need the story from Viktor to understand as far as I can tell so far. Viktor comes home from traveling the world (which itself was the game viktor) to join a band of heroes in defending the world. Fun game, from Bob was hungry to this is a drastic difference, though both games are good.. An excellent game that looks and plays much better than the original, which surprised me with its quality years ago.The controls are tight, fluid, and in the case of the phasing mechanic, you can even adjust how much control you have over it, which is a huge plus. The weapons have a lot more impact, and the default melee attack, while not terribly useful on its own, is better implemented than the aoe burst you had in the original. The mission-based structure of the game might put some people off, but I found it refreshing to have many bite-sized challenges with well-defined goals to run through even if I didn't have a lot of time to spare at once. The optional objectives for each mission might look at first like padding, but they are entirely optional and mostly serve as a way to guarantee yourself a particular crafting ingredient for a weapon you're trying to get rather than rely on enemy random drops. The game has plenty of content, even if you dont attempt the time limit and optional objectives, and the newgame+ introduces a mechanic to let you to further invest in your favorite weapons to give yourself an edge on the more dangerous enemies. This game is easy for me to recommend and if you enjoy it, you might want to look into the original, whose title is simply Viktor, and has more of a Megaman style stage select rather than short objective-based missions, but uses the same phasing and mouse aiming.. Im 14% complete in the story right now but, this game is very good! Good story, amazing combat. Also great movement!. Short version - the devs clearly spent a lot of time making this game and just about no time testing it, which caused the players a lot of grief which the devs responded by saying "lol".This game is not really worth it. While close, a bit of really mean-spirited trolling by the developer just sort of wrecks things. This is a game about running around shooting things, like Castlevania, but in ~5 minute missions and with guns and no levels. So basically not a whole lot like Castlevania at all. That's about as close as I can come, though. It is side-scrolling, and your character has this pretty cool ability to slow time and teleport. You unlock crafting materials to make new guns (or don't, see below), and can get gems to socket into armor you find. The armor sets are mostly equal, the real customization is in the gems you socket. Unfortunately, there are just a handful (eight? ten?) types of gems, and as you go through the game you don't unlock new types, just the same thing but with bigger numbers. The real star of the show are the guns. They are many and varied - rifles, grenade launchers, flamethrowers, chainsaws, homing missile launchers... Pretty cool overall. The only downside is that several enemies are outright immune to certain categories of weapons (ice, fire, lightning, with each monster immune to their own type). This means that the most practical choice in nearly every situation is a boring old rifle, and using other weapons is a bit of fun but extremely situational and even then is noticeably less effective. Still, some variety is nice.Just considering what I've already written, I would probably recommend this game. There's a catch, though - the dev seems to just be trolling completionists. There are levels where, by all accounts, many thorough searches simply do not discover treasure chests that the developer says are there. I am not the only one to have as much trouble finding these. The developer has hinted that some really important crafting materials are hidden in these chests. Alright, fine, so they're really hard to get but you can find them? No, apparently not. If you check the global achievements you will find that 0.0% of players have actually unlocked all the weapons, which require the aforementioned materials. A joke from the dev, apparently, with glitched out chests or missing chests or materials requiring actions so bizarre that literally nobody has found them. Several hours wasted, which probably accounts for a quarter or so of my total time in this game.. A very competent action-adventure 2d platformer. Challenging but not impossible, wonderful sprite art with equally good sound to boot and a one-to-one control, if you are using a mouse and keyboard.A few concerns which to me, holds this gem down a bit:This is not a "metroidvania" or even a open world game. This game is structured around missions you have to engage in the hub area, missions with submissions. Kill a boss, only use this weapon, kill 10 spiders, collect 5 of this item. And all of them got a time you need to beat if you want to complete every mission perfectly. Makes it impossible to "do it all" in your first and even 5th attempt. Designing every mission around these rules makes it kinda repetetive and after a while it feels like you are doing it all in your sleep. You only got firearms, projectily based weapons if you don't count the melee (which is put on E by default, and really tricky to use when you walk right. Controls can be remapped thou)Upgrading is useful, but you have to find blueprints and you can only apply gems in armor, buying weapons by walking far away to the end of the castle each time. Gets a bit annoying when you don't know if the blueprints you found is better then the items you already got on you. Most concerns are small and if you can look past them you got a great 8 out of 10 game right here, deserves more recognition and a proper sequel with a little better design choices. - - -Quick update after 12 hours gameplay.Game is entertaining thru the whole race. New game + gets unlocked after last boss is beaten and adds the option to replay the whole game and upgrading your weapons. This indie title is my biggest surprise so far in 2018. Another (minor) Update!: Patch notes: Added the ability to scroll through weapons with the mouse wheel Changed the control scheme to allow you to use A and B for something other than menu functions Various level adjustments. v1.08 Patch Notes: Attempted to fix the Completionist Achievement Bug Boomerang kills are now counted towards achievement (was a bug). Patch notes for August 31, 2018: Patch notes:Fixed a bug where the number of chests counted per stage was incorrect (due to the way the code works, you will need to go into a stage and leave back to the castle or finish the level to update the numbers correctly). Patch Notes March 20, 2018: Bosses now only drop an upgrade stone once per NG+ mode Fixed a couple dialogue bugs Added an option to turn off the stutter when shooting an enemy. v1.09 Patch Notes: Added a mission post near the merchants to bring up the mission list. Patch Notes March 20, 2018: Bosses now only drop an upgrade stone once per NG+ mode Fixed a couple dialogue bugs Added an option to turn off the stutter when shooting an enemy. Patch Notes March 23rd, 2018: Patch Notes: Pressing middle mouse now selects the next weapon.
